Tsigarasdesign studio presents Whitebox, a residence that encapsulates the studio’s design philosophy: an architecture where geometric clarity meets the dynamic qualities of natural light. Set within a privileged Mediterranean setting, the project reinterprets the typology of the white modern villa through a rigorous composition of volumes, shadows, and transitional outdoor spaces.
The architecture is formed through a series of pure orthogonal volumes that shift horizontally and vertically, generating cantilevers, sheltered outdoor areas, and planted roof terraces. The dialogue between solid and void constitutes the project’s fundamental design principle, while floating slabs and integrated landscaping soften the boundary between architecture and landscape.
The defining architectural gesture of Whitebox is expressed through circular openings — oculi — integrated into the canopies and horizontal slabs. Referencing the modernist language of Louis Kahn, these elements transform light into an active design tool, creating ever-changing fields of light and shadow across the white surfaces. Monolithic white volumes, timber shading screens, full-height openings, pocket gardens, and an infinity pool compose a disciplined yet open architectural system.
Whitebox approaches dwelling as an experience in which geometry, light, and nature operate as equal design instruments, shaping a contemporary interpretation of the Mediterranean way of living.
